In just a few hours (including a few hiccups with MySQL), we moved to a new web hosting provider: Media Temple.

Their service is recommended by everyone, even Zeldman recommends them, and THAT is a big endorsement:

“Of the three leading companies that compete for the business of independent designers, developers, and publishers, Media Temple is the one that’s most deeply embedded in the design community. It is the worm in our oats, the beak in our bucket.”

He runs the premier (dv) service, but I am fine with (ss) for now. =)
After about 5 years, I decided to move away from my previous web hosting provider… I guess it was time to grow up.

Nothing against my old provider, it is just time to move on.

Domain-branded Gmail

A few months ago, I found a cool new feature from Google, your own Domain-branded Gmail interface (screenshot below).

You only need to sign-up with your domain and when they give you access, you’ll then have to change the MX records of your DNS through either your Domain registrar or your web hosting provider.

Of course, it is free, and it has all the features of Gmail.

One thing that is missing is a personalized URL for the branded email like http://mail.your-domain-here.com, right now it is something like: http://mail.google.com/hosted/your-domain-here.com, they say that they keep improving it… and who knows, maybe the’ll have that at some point. =)

I am pleased to announce that my business website, webmediamx.com, is up and running.

Check it out, and let me know what you think!

As usual, it is xHTML compliant, using CSS for laying out it’s Table-less design.

Yay!

After much struggling, I was finally able to add my Photo Gallery to the website.

The Photo Gallery is powered by SlideShowPro. It is a Flash plugin and it also works with iPhoto, Todd really did an awesome job.

To make it degrade gracefully when someone doesn’t have Flash 7 or higher, I used LightBox, which is an unbelievable little script.

I will be adding more stuff photos to it, I’ve been organizing (trying) then and I didn’t know it could be such a long task… probably is long because I never organized them before, I just kept dumping them from the cameras to my HardDisks… Shouldn’t that be enough? =)

Comment Spammers

OK, I was trying to be friendly by letting anyone to post comments in this blog without registering, but apparently you can’t do that because spammers will come and corrupt everything you do to make your blog more user friendly and less restricting.

None of the ’spamments’ have gone through, fortunately, but it is just annoying to get notifications that X or Y comment is waiting to be moderated, ergo, deleted.

If anyone has any ideas on how to deter these e-diots, can you please let me know? I will kindly appreciate it.

Sorry, but for now, if you want to comment, you’ll have to be a signed-in user. =(

Update: you no longer need to register to leave comments. Thumbs up Akismet!
