I found an awesome article on ESPN, and Mr. Simmons basically nails it…
“European soccer stands out because of the superhuman energy of its fans — the chants and songs, the nonstop cheering, the utter jubilation whenever anything good happens, how the games seem to double as life-or-death experiences — and I can’t help but wonder if that same trait has been sucked out of our own sports for reasons beyond our control.”

And also that’s why European Soccer is probably the best in the world.
It’s so sad that the World Cup is over!

Italy is the new Soccer World Champion!

While I wanted Italy to win, I had a lot of respect towards France’s team, I praised Zidane because of his unbelievable skills… it is sad to see him retire the way he did… He didn’t keep his head cool… Regardless of what Materazzi had done, or said, Zidane had it all.
Jason Kottke posted some links to a few videos related to this incident, and he accurately commented on it by saying:
“Materazzi obviously said something. With all his experience, hasn’t Zidane heard it all before?”
France was all over Italy, France was not losing, France did want to go to PKs, but Zidane’s action didn’t hurt Materazzi as much as did hurt his own team.
Another sad thing is that he’s going to get all the media coverage (as we are doing now), and Italy will not get the attention they deserve… We are all talking about Zidane, and barely about Italy.
On that note: Bravo Forza Azzurri!
